2011 Cultural Walking Tour Series / Walk-A-Blocks and Fireside Chats

The Tanners Home Inn, 190 King Street East, corner of King Street East at Wentworth, (Blockhouse Hill) will continue their heritage cultural Walk-A-Block program this summer. The cost is $10 per person which includes drinks and snacks. A portion of the funds raised are donated to the SPCAAR (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty towards Animals - The Animal Rescue League).

The Walk-A-block tours are held on Saturday morning, from 11am until about 12:15 pm.

Customized tours can be arranged for a group of four or more within any area of the uptown, or you could have a Fire-side Chitchat right at Tanners with Tea & Sweets. Call or email Terri for more details.

The $10 cost of the Walk or Fireside Chat includes drink and snack refreshments. A portion of the funds raised will be donated to the Saint John SPCA for their ongoing projects.

All walks take place in the immediate uptown area. The range of topics for discussion for the walks and Fireside Chats are wide-ranging and will cover many areas of Saint John’s heritage.

The Walks and Fireside Chats will be conducted with local historians and other guest narrators will participate in some of the walks.

CHANGE IN WEATHER POLICY:

In case of inclement weather,  the outdoor walk will become a Fireside Chat inside the house with the same beginning time.

The Schedule for the Walk-A-Block walking tours is. Specific dates will be announced later.

  • June 18th Blockhouse Corner and the King’s Square Great Fire of 1877.

    • hear the story of Great Georges Street, named after the MAD King of England and the first Lunatic Asylum at this location. We will walk to King’s Square (named for this same MAD King) and hear how the City was reborn from this spot after the Great 1877 Fire.

Private Walks and Fireside Chats are also available for individuals or groups. We will tailor design a program for you.

Lunches and Teas

To celebrate Saint John’s 225th anniversary, the Tanners Home Inn will host a monthly lunches or teas. Stay tuned to this site for details.
