With or without the aid of resource material, build thumbnails to standard 100% of the time. |
Important: Ensure the following standards are set in Front Page before inserting your thumbnail to keep appearance and quality consistent throughout - Thumbnails should be set to width of 150 pixels, border setting un-clicked and bevelled edge selected. These actions can be carried out in FrontPage/tools/page options/auto thumbnail. |
1 |
In FrontPage open the appropriate website. |
2 |
Open the document which requires a thumbnail. |
Important: If more than one image needs to be inserted at a point, or more will be added later, a table is required following the steps below. If a table is not required ignore steps 3 and 4 and the note following. |
3 |
Insert a table... |
...at the point just prior to the text the picture (s)
refer to. |
4 |
Set style in table... |
...to Normal.doctable |
Note: The second row in the table is for the graphic title. |
Tips and Tricks: You can ignore steps 5 to 8, if the image has already been used in another document or website and is a thumbnail, as you can just copy and paste. The appearance and quality will stay the same and the hyperlink maintained. Ensure you keep both documents open while carrying out this action. |
5 |
Insert image into desired position on the document... |
...go to insert/picture/from file and locate the image you require. |
6 |
Change the image to a thumbnail... |
...keep image active and click on the auto thumbnail icon in the picture toolbar. |
Note: If the image was transparent ensure the thumbnail is transparent by clicking on the 'set transparent colour' icon on the picture toolbar and then click on a blank area of the thumbnail. |
7 |
Edit thumbnail settings... |
...right click on the thumbnail/select picture properties/go to appearance and set horizontal spacing to 2 pixels. |
Note: You can carry out the next step when doing the step above. While in picture properties, go to general and target frame. |
8 |
Set the thumbnail to open in standard location unless specific situation requires different settings... |
...right click on the thumbnail/go to hyperlink properties and set target frame to same frame for regular or whole page for large, depending on the situation. |
9 |
Set style for single graphic... |
...to Normal.doctable. |
10 |
Place title immediately beneath thumbnail... |
...use soft return (shift, enter) and type graphic title. |
Important: When saving ensure you save into the 'images' folder. At this stage you should also check when saving a picture that it is a jpeg file and when saving a diagram it is a gif file unless other circumstances require differently. |
