Observer's Reference Guide


Abstract:

When you are validating a learner's performance, you must always be aware of your obligation to the learner. Signing off on a substandard performance is not only legally wrong, but could lead to serious injury or death of the learner or fellow team mates. Consistent interpretation of the Performance Standards specified for each skill is your responsibility. If you are unsure of the Performance Standard required, ask for clarification.

Cautions: Although you are not to help the learner while they are performing the procedure, do not allow them to deviate from the procedure in any way that could endanger themselves, their mates, the environment, or the equipment. If any deficiencies are found in the procedure being observed, a change in the process must be initiated.
