Geopark Indirect Operator

Saint John and surrounding area is quickly becoming recognized for the unique geological formations that are readily viewable in the area.  "Stone Hammer" developed by Randall  Miller and Gary Hughes of the New Brunswick Museum, offers the increasing popular way of experiencing this geology through a number of "geowalks" which explains the unique geological formations and their relationship to the many stone and brick buildings in the area.  Tanners Home Inn is proud to support this program and offers a number of geowalks that can be taken directly from the inn.

A Journey of Art and Architecture

Some say the concept of the vacation was invented in Victorian times. Whether or not that is true, this Victorian experience is a fascinating overnight respite and a journey back in time.

You choose light cream and a sugar cube for your afternoon tea, along with a fresh scone and sweet treat. Your room in this restored 1878 inn is reminiscent of the grand manor-homes of Victorian times. The next morning you wake late, and take your time over a delicious, hearty breakfast, enjoying the life of the gentry.

Now you dive even deeper into Victorian history: first, an art class in the studio at the inn with a trained tutor; then a stroll to signature sites like the Loyalist Burial Grounds, Old County Courthouse, Kings Square, and the old Saint John City Market with interpretation by a local historian.

Entering the Saint John Art Centre at the Carnegie Building is an authentic step back into the city's Victorian society. This charming building was a gift to the city from the well-known American financier, Andrew Carnegie, over 100 years ago, and you feel a special connection to that time as you wander through the art collection housed here.

Mr. Carnegie believed that anyone could change their destiny through learning. As you walk under the lantern above the door that symbolizes enlightenment, you feel an important lesson from the past has been carried into your future.

Total price is a reasonable $142 per night per person plus 13% HST
